In recognizing the role citizens are playing in the leeward counties where police presence is unfelt, Dr. Tokpah said traditional leaders and chiefs have been the ones maintaining the peace and settling dispute in those areas. “We want them to continue to do so even when UNMIL departs,” he said.
Dr Tokpah called on the government to provide traditional people the moral and technical assistance they need in order to help in maintaining the peace.
Dr Henrique Tokpah thanked the president for appointing him as the new minister for Internal Affairs, promising to maintain the peace between the people of Ivory Coast and the people of Liberia.
The minister also pledged to eliminate ghost names from the payroll of the ministry.
