The dumping of dirt in drainage across the country has been one of the major causes of flooding during the rainy season. Hence, a prominent resident of the Airfield Community Electoral District #9 Montserrado County, Fubbi Henries, is calling on citizens to stop blocking drainages to avoid flooding in various communities.
According to Mr. Henries, the blocking of drainages in various communities doing the rainy season can also cause serious sanitation problem that could lead to outbreak of diseases. “Sanitation is something that we all should uphold at individual and community levels if we are to improve and control some illnesses that are fast killing our people,” Mr. Henries added. He said, if communities are to improve and solve most of the issues of disease outbreak, good sanitation and hygiene practices should remain the key priority to every Liberian. Mr. Fubbi Armah Henries who is also working with a major sanitation group, “Movement Against Poverty”, stressed that the continued outbreak of malaria and typhoid are as the result of poor sanitation. “Sixty percent of prevention for malaria and typhoid during the raining season is achieved by having clean and sanitized environment, while the other forty percent can be treated by hospitals,” he stressed. He said the spraying of dumpsites and cleaning of environments can also help to dislodge mosquitoes and other crawling inserts.
