Minutes after the news of shooting broke out, highly placed security sources told The Capitol Times that the shooting incidence is a conspiracy theory intended to cajole President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the National Legislature to increase operational allotments for security apparatuses under the pretext that there is a looming danger.
Our source hinted that the shooting was national security institutions’ heads own making and not the work of strange men as is being speculated.
“Because of the fake nature of the incidence, Defense Minister Brownie Samukai declined addressing the Ministry of Information press briefing out of fear that some journalists had gotten the real issue behind the counterfeit shooting in Bomi,” our source indicated.
As indicated, Defense Minister Samukai snubbed journalists who had gone to attend a widely publicized press conference to address the scaring news of gun sounds in the forest of Sass Town, Klay District early Monday morning. Minister Samukai was seen in the building but left surreptitiously as other officials of the Ministry of National Defense were seen running helter-skelter.
According to one of the residents in Sass town in Bomi County, Boima Gbilay, he saw nine armed men wearing black T-shirts marching in queue coming towards him while trying to harvest some cassava on his farm.
Oldman Gbilay said when the armed men were approaching his area, he immediately disengaged and ran into the town and alarmed the situation. Few minutes later, they heard heavy shooting on the main road and people became panicky.
He noted that the shooting lasted for over fifteen minutes and disrupted normal activities within the county.
Despite the alarm, security personnel assigned in the county gave cold shoulder at the dismay of residents who expressed apprehension that the shooting was a calculated effort from within security cycle.
Assistant Defense Minister for Public Affairs David Dahn told reporters via mobile phone that his Ministry will make an appropriate statement later, but have now reserved all comments on the matters.
This alleged conspiracy theory is being implemented just on the heels of stern campaign by Defense Minister Samukai and Police Director Chris Massaquoi for budgetary increment to enhance their capacity to provide security to the state.
