Appearing yesterday on the Capitol FM breakfast show, the LP Chairman said despite efforts to resuscitate the traditional components of the economy, little has been done by the government in the agriculture sector.
Sanvee lamented “this government has done well as far as resuscitating the traditional components of the economy which is the extractive industry but they have done a horrible job when it comes to the agricultural sector”.
Sanvee indicated, “Although we have seen some moves towards the agricultural sector of late, any government that has lasted for eleven years should now know that you cannot rely on the traditional sectors that have driven our economy”.
“The Liberty Party, come 2017, intends to make the economy agro-base, create more jobs, and create an economy where a middle class springs up with millionaires,” Sanvee stressed.
He said “attracting 16 billion dollars investment and the waiver of debts are laudable ventures but it is temperamental and seasonal because when the price of iron ore goes down on the world market everything becomes bad”.
“We at Liberty Party urge our people to think proactively; noting perhaps we need to encourage industrial base sectors in the economy and we need power to do that,” Sanvee noted.
“Even though we commend the government for the investment in the hydro we want them to open things up by encouraging more private sector involvement and empowerment to oversee the operations of these initiatives and the government being a regulator”, he narrated.
“We want the private sector involved in power generation and distribution and we as an opposition will remain constructively engaged to ensure that these things happen because we are government in waiting,” he said
