The North Central Alliance (NCA), which comprises citizens of Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Gbarpolu and Margibi Counties, says not only is such public support to Vice President Boakai from President Sirleaf necessary, but would eliminate a wide range of speculations that the President is spending huge sums of money on the opposition Liberty Party.
According to an NCA release, the group wishes to emphasize to President Sirleaf that the people of the North Central Alliance voted her overwhelmingly in 2005 and 2011 because of Vice President Boakai for which the NCA believes that the President, in good faith, should reciprocate the good generosity exhibited by Ambassador Boakai and the Alliance counties during the 2017 elections.
“The NCA further maintains that the speculations are very disturbing and do not in any way represent a good image of the President and the nation’s flourishing democracy that all Liberians are endeavoring to sustain,” the release stated, noting that the Vice President has diligently and honestly served President Sirleaf and the Country over the years and as such, it would be wrongful for the Vice President’s interest to be subordinated to the interest of another person allegedly preferred by President Sirleaf.
The pro-Joseph Boakai group indicates that according to its readings of history and tradition, the onus now is on President Sirleaf to reciprocate the support received from the North-Central Alliance counties during her two successive elections as President of the Republic of Liberia.
“The NCA must be unequivocally clear to all and sunder that it supported the election of Madam Sirleaf principally because of Ambassador Boakai and believes that at this juncture, it is only prudent and necessary for her to reciprocate the kind gesture of our people. It is worth mentioning that if President Sirleaf betrays our interest by not supporting Ambassador Boakai to succeed her, she would have signaled a message of disinterest and we will hesitate not to advise Ambassador Boakai when the time is ripe to determine the future of Liberia,” the group reiterated.
Meanwhile, the NCA is reiterating its support to Vice President Boakai and at the same time urging member counties to follow suite and not be distracted by the “deceptive politics being allegedly played”.
The group maintains that Veep Boakai remains the most experienced, most competent, qualified, knowledgeable and skillful candidate for the highest seat in the coming 2017 elections.
