The Youth Chairman of the United People Party (UPP), Michael Tapison revealed on the Capitol Breakfast show on Tuesday that his party stands firm to respect and uphold the Code of Conduct since it is constitutional.
“The COC appears to be a unique document that can store integrity into public service. Too many people are focused on the political participation of the COC which is about section 5.1 and 5.2, as a result of a huge tension it has caused and many political parties are taking positions,” he explained.
He said the UPP wants to have a country that is clear, lawful and citizens acting in a positive direction, where the law of the Republic is considered practical, respected and implemented.
“Why must the law be relaxed after several investments being placed on? Whatever the matter is, the law must not be relaxed or downplayed, it should be implemented,” he added.
According to him, a lawless society will be created if the law of the state is not respected and upheld.
Tapison stated that if the law cannot be respected, it can bring about social disharmony; thus he frowned on those wanting to lead the country but unwilling to respect the law of the state, a situation he said is not only baffling but troubling.
He asserted that the COC is a law that can uphold the integrity of the country, which he noted originated from the 1986 constitution.
He urged those who may be caught in the web of the COC, to respect it, noting that a nation without a set regulation invites anarchy.
Meanwhile, Tapison had revealed that the UPP is one of the most popular political parties which gave birth to many of the current political parties. He said the party is fully prepared for the election, evidenced by the establishment of offices in the 15 political subdivisions.
