The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Madam Elfreda Steward Tamba, is expected to address Liberian Tenants and Landlords at the official launch of the Liberia Tenant and Leaser Right Association (LTLRA) on Saturday May 27, 2017 in Paynesville as keynote Speaker, while Paynesville City Major Cyvette Gibson will serve as chief launcher.
The launching ceremony according to the local civil society group will take place at the Power of God International Ministries in Joe Bar, Paynesville City at 12 noon. LTLRA was organized in December 2014 with a sole intent to help government resolve issues affecting tenants and landlords as well as constant land disputes in the country through advocacy. According to the local organization the launch is in affirmation of the United Nations Housing Programme or UN-Habitat protocol which calls for the protection of the right to adequate housing for women, children, slum-dwellers as well as people who are forcibly evicted. Tenants’ protection and access to basic housing related services are key components of the right to adequate standard of living as enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UN Committee on Economic, social and cultural rights interpret this as the right to live somewhere in security, peace and dignity. The group said it will work with the various municipalities in the country in carrying out awareness on proper construction of homes and the enforcement of city ordinance. The Executive Director of LTLRA, Precious Vah, is calling on all tenants and landlords as well as leasers and property owners to grace the occasion.
