Addressing a news conference in Monrovia yesterday, the LINSU Boss emphasized that the tournament would be an annual event which is the biggest in the country’s educational history and is expected to commence February 26, and end on April 29, 2016.
Mr. Varney Jarsey indicated that the funding from the government of Liberia which was attained through numerous consultations will enhance the smooth operation of the nationwide tournament intended to rejuvenate the culture of academic excellence amongst students.
The LINSU president narrated, “while we are first to admit that the government of Liberia must seize the moment to substantially invest in education, it is an act of virtue to commend her when she does commendable things.
“Against this backdrop, we commend the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning under the stewardship of Minister Amara Konneh, and the Ministry of Education who have all agreed to institute a modern educational system,” the LINSU boss stressed.
Jarsey mentioned that the quizzing tournament is the biggest ever hosted in the country and it is a serious demonstration of “our commitment to help rebrand this messy educational sector as well as the beginning of the revitalization of fervor and excellence in the educational sector”.
He further stated that the tournament is divided into two phases that includes an intra high school tournament in the fifteen counties, geared at selecting the various county teams; and the national high school quizzing competition that brings counties face to face with each other in an exciting academic challenge.
According to him, LINSU would immediately launch a nationwide inter county debate competition upon the completion of the quizzing tournament.
He indicated that the programs are intended to help strengthen the educational sector of Liberia as well as enhance students’ competitiveness in competing with their counterparts from other regions and continents.
