The provisional list mentioned 783 candidates as authentic ones eligible to contest the October 10 elections.
The provisional list is subject to addition which is expected to be done at the climax of the objections and appeals on nominations, and the final list of candidates will be published on July 31, 2017, the official day of campaign opening.
Accepted candidates began to pick up their acceptance notices from NEC yesterday at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
Accordingly, out of the 783 candidates, 77 were independent candidates and from political parties.
The All Liberian Party has 59 candidates; the Alternative National Congress 66 candidates, while the Change for Democratic Action has six candidates. The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), featuring CDC, NPP and LPDP had 54 candidates.
Others include Coalition for Liberia’s Progress with 34 candidates; Grassroots Democratic Party of Liberia with 23 candidates, Liberia Transformation Party with 49 candidates, the Liberia National Union 18 candidates, Liberia’s People Party with 25 candidates and Liberty Party with 60 candidates.
The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction registered 32 candidates; Movement for Economic Empowerment 54 candidates; Movement for Progressive Change, 20 candidates; People’s Unification Party , 35 candidates; True Whig Party, 29 candidates; United People’s Party, 63 candidates; and the Unity Party, 53 candidates. Others included the Victory for Change Party, 10 candidates and Vision for Liberia Transformation Party, 16 candidates.
