Speaking from the United States of America on the Capitol Breakfast Club yesterday as to why she wrote a scathing opinion about Senator Taylor, Ms Gono said that the reasons given based on newspaper reports by Senator Taylor for being absent on the August 19 CDC rally were flimsy, and therefore, she must come out clean to let the public know.
Ms. Korwu Gono said that instead of Senator Taylor addressing the open letter that she (Gono) wrote her, she being an opportunist used the existing misunderstanding between Ambassador George Weah and Korwu Gono as a means to rally more support within the CDC since she is an opportunist.
“She mistook me as a soft target and am sure by now, I have sharpened that contradiction significantly and am sure she would not repeat that mistake again”, she said.
Setting the record straight, Ms Korwo Gono said that Senator Taylor is not competent to be Vice Standard bearer because she has no advocacy record for women, and only what she was known for was advocating for increment of her senatorial salary and trying to box a fellow woman who expressed her genuine case of her child support.
Ms Korwo Gono bashed Senator Taylor for turning over her Green Card to the US State department where she was living good life and joined an infamous rebel group to destroy the lives of over 250,000 Liberians and destroy part of Lofa where she emerged, and any attempt to exonerate herself from that movement is a lazy one.
Ms. Gono said that despite the country yearning for reconciliation, Senator Taylor must also be accountable for the heinous crimes committed by the rebels because being at the helm of power, she had never denounced any action or atrocities caused by the NPFL movement which was known for destabilizing not only Liberia but the sub region.
“She said she has a record in advocacy. Where was she when the man under whose banner she is running to be a Vice President, Ambassador George Weah, was chased out of Liberia; his houses all burnt by the former President Taylor? But today she wants to masquerade around shamelessly around CDC”, she said.
Ms Korwo Gono said that Madam Taylor saw atrocities committed by her husband Charles Taylor, and was never seen nor heard campaigning against those ills. “She should be grateful to President Sirleaf for advocating for her not to be banned from travelling abroad,” Gono said.
In response to the allegations, CDC District #8 representative Acarous M. Gray described Gono’s assertions as deception.
“Her statement is an act of deception. The NPP and the CDC both supported her candidacy so to argue that the ticket with Senator Taylor is a ruminant of the NPFL is confusing because she supported this idea 2011,” Gray argued.
