The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has summoned the Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA), Madam Mary T. Broh, to appear before it on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 to answer to charges of official oppression, simple assault, criminal solicitation and criminal facilitation levied against her.
Madam Broh was on Tuesday, August 29, summoned by the Monrovia City Court based upon a complaint filed by Sheikh Kouyateh alleging that on August 10, 2017, while at the Birth Certificate Center, Madam Broh who was serving as Coordinator of the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Ministry of Health, commanded and persuaded people under her scope of authority to beat him, inflicting injuries on his body and tearing his clothes.
Kouyateh alleged that the defendant herself physically choked him.
The writ of summons ordered Madam Broh to appear before the Court to answer to the complaint brought against her.
The writ of summons further indicates that the alleged act of the defendant, being unlawful, wicked and violent, is in violation of section 10.2, 10.3, and 12.70 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.
During the hearing, protesters were seen on the grounds of the Temple of Justice with placards in their hands demanding justice from the court; with some saying, "Madam Broh is not above the law, and justice should prevail".
