Mr. Allen met his untimely death in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, March 5, 2016 when his Nissan Pathfinder ran into a broken down truck in the middle of the road around the RLJ Hotel in Thinkers Village.
The death of the Deputy Minister, who is a son to the Chairman emeritus of the National Patriotic Party, Chief Cyril Allen, sent shockwaves across the country.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 3am when his vehicle collided with the Renault truck that was left unattended at the middle of the road.
The late Deputy Minister of Commerce was responsible for the day-to-day Operations, Human Resources and Finances at the Ministry,
According to the Ministry of Commerce website, Mr. Allen, “provided continued hands on capacity building and training for his team in the areas of financial management, office administration, and project implementation. He has identified and ensured training opportunities for over 45 young Liberians from various sectors through the UNIDO YES-DI program. Mr. Allen serves on the National Coordinating Committee of the ECOWAS volunteer program providing educators to various neglected counties across the nation.”
The late Deputy Minister was fluent in English, French, Spanish, Italian as well as several local and regional languages (Twi, and Bassa). Mr. Allen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland, USA. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law and Journalism from the Graduate School of MAMSA in Accra, Ghana. In his youth, Mr. Allen attended the Newlands Manor School in Eastbourne, United Kingdom.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessica Donovan-Allen and two daughters, Nyla and Nyssa Allen. His family resides in Duarzon, Margibi County. He was an avid football fan and played with several local groups. Mr. Allen represented St Anthony/Black Star Football clubs in the Liberia First Division League and was also a Liberia U-23 national football team call-up in 2003. He and his wife supported local football teams as well as the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa.
