President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has described the outgoing Minister of Finance and Development Planning Amara M. Konneh as a ‘trustworthy person’. “From me to him, let me say that I can walk in the dark with Minister at my back; I will not miss a step or turn on him, because I know that’s the trust, and confidence I have in him,” the president told an audience of jubilant friends, family members and sympathizers.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the remarks on Friday, March 18, 2016 when she attended an honoring program organized by the Friends of Amara Konneh in honor of outgoing Finance Minister, Amara M. Konneh, at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia. She said Minister Konneh has been able to demonstrate a great deal of allegiance, honesty and commitment not only on the job but to the UP-led administration. President Sirleaf described Minister Konneh: “As someone who has earned my trust and confidence and someone who you have worked with and because of him, we made it”. The Liberian Chief Executive noted that she recognized and appreciated Minister’s Konneh many contributions in the reconstruction and development effort of Liberia. She said at a suitable time government will honor Minister Amara Konneh for his inexorable services rendered the nation and its people. Earlier, outgoing Finance and Development Planning Minister Amara Konneh credited his achievements during his nearly 10 years of dedicated public service to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He said it was President Sirleaf’s vision for Liberia and her decision to allow him to serve that enabled him to contribute meaningfully to national development that imparted many lives across the country. Minister Konneh said some of the his achievements as Deputy Chief of Staff, Minister of Planning and Economic Affairs then and now the Minister of Finance and Development Planning included the mobilization of resources construction of roads, bridges, restoration of electricity and the MCC grant amongst others. In separate remarks, the Presidents of Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), the Yanna Boys Association and the Shine Boys Association, Messrs Augustine Tamba, Prince Kollie and Boye Ojuku George among others thanked and expressed appreciation to Minister Konneh for the level of kindness shown towards their respective organizations that impacted lives meaningfully. The ceremony was graced by senior government officials, family members, friends and sympathizers.
