A United States based non-profit organization, Growing Liberia’s Children (GLC) has donated assorted children clothing to needy school children in three institutions in Monrovia.
The clothing was distributed to several institutions including the Rhema Faith Academy (RFA) located in Garnesville, Jones Christian Academy (JCA) in Oldest Congo Town and the John F. Kennedy Hospital Maternity Center in Sinkor among others. Speaking when he formally turned the donated items over to the Jones Christian Academy in Congo Town, the Executive Director of the humanitarian organization, Mr. Sando Momolu stated that the materials were his organization’s own way of identifying with the kids who are attending the school. He expressed the hope that the items will be distributed to deserving students as they go about their activities in school this semester. “This is just little clothing for the little kids here. The organization has mandated me to bring them to the children to use,” Mr. Momolu asserted. In response, the head of Jones Christian Academy, Bishop Emmanuel R. Jones, who also is a member of the Board of GLC, thanked the organization for the donated materials and assured that the items will be given to deserving students. Bishop Jones also used the occasion to call on other Liberians who are opportune to follow the footstep of GLC by reaching out to the needy. He indicated that government alone cannot do all and it is necessary that others who have to share with the children. “We want other people who have to follow this good example of GLC. We cannot wait on government to do everything for us,” said Bishop Jones. The Liberian clergyman also encouraged well-meaning Liberians to lend support to institutions that are helping to mold the minds of children in Liberia. Established in 2007 in California, Santiago by Rev. Malia E. Harris, a Liberian and some goodwill American citizens, Growing Liberia’s Children has been providing materials to schools in the Gardnerville area to help keep up to 200 kids in school. In recent years, Aiding Liberia’s Children provided books, chairs made available by its parent organization, Growing Liberia’s Children based in the United States of America. It can be recalled that in 2014, during the heat of the Ebola crisis in the country, GLC was committed again by providing 500 bags of 25kg rice along with 50 gallons of Argo oil to over 200 kids and their parents.
