The acting Chairman of the Liberty Party (LP) Benjamin Sanvee has indicated that the party is vigorously soliciting support from members of the opposition bloc to unseat the Unity Party led administration in the ensuing 2017 elections.
Appearing Wednesday on the Capitol Breakfast Club on Capitol FM 89.7, the LP Chairman intimated that the party is busy with the formulation of a strong opposition bloc against the ruling Unity Party. According to him, despite the level of work being done at the party, the Liberty Party intends to create a big tent that will be used to absorb several partisans of the ruling establishment which will ensure victory in 2017. “Our goal is to make sure an opposition wins and we are interested in forming an opposition bloc that creates a big tent that absorbs Unity Party partisans,” Sanvee said, stressing, “We are practicing the politics of hope and not anger; therefore we are aggressively going after Unity Party partisans because we want to offer a change”. He noted further that the Liberty Party intends draw the many undecided voters whom according to him, make up a significant number of the voting populace. “Most Liberian voters usually sit on the fence and observe the electoral processes; these people eventually change the course of the electoral process and we will go after them,” he stated. The youthful Benjamin Sanvee was recently announced acting LP Chairman following former LP Chairman Cllr. Fonati Koffa’s appointment as Minister of State Without Portfolio and his resignation as LP Chair. It is widely believed Sanvee’s appointment is a calculated move to attract the large youth voting population towards the Liberty Party come 2017.
