October 12 is celebrated each year as the Independence Day of Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea became a Republic after its independence was conceded on October 12, 1968 with Francisco Macías Nguema elected as its first President.
In her message to His Excellency Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, President Johnson Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations and best wishes to the Government and people of Equatorial Guinea on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, and in her own name.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Johnson Sirleaf assured Equatorial Guinea of Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the existing cordial ties between both countries aimed at exploring new potential areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of their respective peoples.
“As we endeavor to improve prosperity for our peoples and lead the path to a brighter future, we should continuously nurture the historic ties between our countries,” President Johnson Sirleaf stressed.
