He noted that as Chairperson of ECOWAS, President Sirleaf’s collaborative role with other West African Heads of State to end the political bickering in The Gambia, as well as her recent statement at the inauguration of Ghana’s newly elected President, where she referred to Ghana as the “Shining Star of Africa”, is a manifestation of her exemplary leadership role.
Addressing the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia Thursday, Smith noted that it is about time that Liberians cultivate the exemplary role of President Sirleaf by proving to the region and the world that “we cannot make our political diversity to divide us again.”
“The role our President is playing in the region now poses extra responsibilities on us as a nation to do what is politically prudent as in the case of Ghana that is known for its long history of peaceful conduct of presidential elections as well as peaceful transfer of power,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Information Minister has lauded the organizers of the 2016/2017 National County Meet for its peaceful conduct so far, and called on Liberians to continue to exhibit the spirit of unity and peace as the tournament reaches the grand finale.
He also commended Montserrado and Maryland counties for reaching the finals of this year’s county meet.
