The Ministry of Public Works recently announced that it would impose fines on violators and said the objective of the directive is to protect the country’s roads from deterioration.
The Ministry said absolutely no vehicle above 2.55 to 4.5 meters high, 5.22 meters long or more than twenty tonnes will be allowed to ply unpaved roads during the rainy season.
The Ministry named the roads as the Sanniquellie to Lougatuo, Ganta to Zwedru to Fish Town and the Lofa Bridge roads.
Others are Buchanan to Cestos junction up to Barclayville and the Gbarnga-Mendikorma highway.
A release issued by the Ministry of Public Works Office in Gbarnga, Bong County said the new policy is being implemented to minimize the problems caused by heavy vehicles on rural roads during the rainy season and to increase roadway safety, mobility and enhance existing opportunity for inter-modal transport in Liberia.
In the release, the Ministry said it is coordinating with the Ministry of Transport to oversee the full implementation of the new policy.
