According to Chiarman Korkoya, those that have refused to adhere to the regulation will face the wrath of the commission.
He said those that have fulfilled NEC’s demand are Grassroots Democratic Party of Liberia, Movement for Economic Empowerment, All Liberian Coalition Party, All Liberia Party, Coalition for Democratic Change, People’s Unification Party, Unity Party, Liberia Transformation Party and Alternative National Congress.
Speaking at the regular press briefing of the commission yesterday, the NEC chairman said the rest of the parties are yet to comply with the regulation.
He said “only nine political parties have fulfilled the demand of the Commission by filing their asset and liabilities and those that are yet to meet the criteria will sooner or later face the wrath of the law.”
“The law requires that parties are to submit their audited accounts and declaration of asserts on September 1 2017 in accordance with Article 83d of the constitution of Liberia. But only nine of the Political parties have so far submitted and the National Elections Commission will review them shortly,” he said.
He however noted that Political Parties are also expected to submit their detailed campaign plans as a matter of urgency as well as ensure that rallies and campaign programs do not coincide unnecessarily.
“We want the Parties to have the police informed of large rallies to minimize public disruption and risks of campaign the rallies clashing with one another. We want to make sure everyone is safe during these rallies, public order is maintained and inconvenience to the public is minimized”, he said.
