A man believed to be in his early thirties has been detained at the Monrovia Central Prison by the Monrovia City Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
Defendant Saah Johnson, a resident of Old Road Community, was early this month arrested and brought to the Zone 3 Police Station based upon a complaint filed by the victim’s mother alleging that her daughter was raped by the defendant at night while she was in bed. The complainant further stated that the victim went to spend the night with her oldest sister and that the defendant took advantage of the opportunity to invite the victim to his room and sexually abuse her. The defendant was on Wednesday, May 11, arraigned before the Monrovia City Court to answer to the charges levied against him. The Police charge further indicated that after the victim was sexually abused by the defendant she never told anybody until her mother noticed that she was losing weight. The charge sheet said when she was confronted, she explained to her mother that she was sexually abused by “Uncle Johnson,” the defendant. The Police charge sheet stated that after the defendant sexually abused the girl, he gave her L$50 to buy food and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. During police investigation the defendant denied the allegation saying, “I did not do anything to her. I was not at home. I went to work; so she lied on me.” Meanwhile, defendant Johnson is currently behind bars awaiting court trial.
