According to the Sinoe County lawmaker, bad road condition is making life difficult for business people as well as citizens because the transportation of goods to the county is almost impossible.
He said commercial vehicles are also overcharging passengers because of the deplorable road condition, which has created serious hardship for the people in the county.
Representative Macaulay averred that as a result of the prevailing situation, citizens of Sinoe County are frustrated and disappointed in the Unity Party led government adding that his kinsmen would cast a protest vote come 2017.
He said the government has failed the people of Sinoe County miserably and promised to campaign against Unity Party (UP) in 2017 if the UP led Government fails to repair the two roads.
The roads from Rivercess and Grand Gedeh Counties are reportedly in a deplorable condition which makes it inaccessible for vehicles to ply from the two counties and enter Greenville City, Sinoe County.
The Sinoe County lawmaker also said the recently collapsed Timbo Bridge is compounding the situation.
He said the price of bag of rice has risen to US$80.00, while the price of half bag of rice is now LD$ 45.00. The prices of other commodities are affected as well.
Representative Macaulay described the situation as “pathetic” and urged the Government and other relevant NGOs to assist the people of Sinoe County to help repair the road.
When quizzed whether Golden Veroleum and other concession companies operating in the county are not helping to rehabilitate the road, Representative Macaulay said these companies are not under obligation to repair roads, but they can only provide assistance.
He indicated that the County’s Caucus has written them but have gotten no response yet. “We cannot force them. They are taxpayers in the country; they are not here to develop our county,” he said.
